I always wanted original art for Chimera House. I first approached Kent Bonifield back when I started the first draft in 2017. He’s both an illustrator and an architectural renderer, so I knew he was the perfect person to illustrate a story where architecture plays such a key role. Kent did a great job realizing the chimeric architectural mishmash I could only see in my brain. Kent was able to draw a perfect version of what I imagine Chimera House looks like.
With his permission I’ve put this image of the house into a variety of AI tools along with the descriptions from the book. So far, no AI tool has come close to giving me a book-accurate version of what Chimera House looks like. In my experience, AI art generators have a hard time producing something that’s both specific and unusual like this piece. They’re much better suited for coming up with something useful if you don’t have a strong vision of what you want.
